There are these guys from Sweden who make the rock and roll that I like. They are called Blindside. And while they’re generally on the more bombastic side of things, occasionally they get all acoustic on me and even that’s cool. Take for instance the song Black Rose:

The Black Rose Grows Thorns

It’s a beautiful song, sung with feeling. But in my mind, I’ve always heard it with the big drums and guitars that accompany most of their songs. And it just so happens that shoved into my 4 Runner is some recording gear. And it also happens that I was house sitting for some friends of mine whose open floor plan house was nearly perfect for recording. (In case you need to ever start a band, Wes and Meg, your house sounds awesome.)

The photo above is a panorama of what it looks like to set up a mobile recording space wherever you might be. The dining room functioned as the control room, and the foyer/living room was the tracking space. All things considered, it turned out pretty well.

I’m not sure if I’m done with it, but I like it so far.

If you’d like to hear more from these guys, I’m linking up their Facebook and Twitter profiles.
